Chapel, David
David Chapel, 91, of Cedar Rapids, passed away May 11, 2013, following an extended illness. Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, with the Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer presiding. Interment will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery following the service. Visitation is 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
David was born April 2, 1922, in Cedar Rapids, to Orrie James and Lois C. (Springer) Chapel. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the South Pacific during World War II from 1942-1944. David married Leota Gardner on Nov. 20, 1944, and they resided in Cedar Rapids. He worked for 44 years at LeFebure Corporation.
David is survived by his son, Randy (Patti) Chapel; two grandchildren, Brett Chapel and Stephanie (Brian) Helle; two great-grandchildren, Aidan and Carson Helle; sister, Nancy (Lowell) Waybill; and good friend, Theresa Chapel.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; son, Jeffrey Chapel; four brothers, Orrie, Jr., Darrell (in infancy), Louis and Gerald; and two sisters, Dawn and Linda.
David was an avid Cubs and Hawkeye fan, enjoyed fishing, bowling, playing cards and doing crossword puzzles. He enjoyed helping others, especially his family and neighbors.
Friends are encouraged to give memorial donations to Hospice of Mercy, Cedar Rapids.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to David's neighbors for their help and support.
All attending the funeral service will be welcome to stay for a reception following the graveside committal service.
