Chalupsky, Clayton W.
Clayton W. Chalupsky, 85, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at All Saints Catholic Church. The Rev. David O'Connor will officiate. Burial, with military rites: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Queen of All Saints Chapel at All Saints Catholic Church on Tuesday from 4 to 6:30 p.m., with a vigil service held at 6 p.m. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Clay was born July 14, 1926, in Vining, the son of Paul W. and Alice H. Chalupsky. He graduated from La Porte City High School and served in the U.S. Army ordnance during World War II in Austria. He married Judy George on Aug. 13, 1960, in Cedar Rapids.
Clay was a mechanical engineer, working for Link-Belt Speeder, Eska Co., Ertl Inc., Century Engineering, Gilson Bros. and retiring from Lawn-Boy in 1991.
He was a longtime member of All Saints Catholic Church and a lifelong inventor. In his retirement he enjoyed the successes of research and development of a deer repellent.
He was devoted to his family and loved fishing, hunting and the outdoors.
Clay will be deeply missed by his family.
Survivors include his loving wife, Judy; children, Randy and Rick Chalupsky, Valerie Jelinek, Lynne (Scott) DeVore, Hal (Linda) Chalupsky and their families; a sister Helen (Les) Valenta; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by infant son, Marty; his parents; and brothers, Paul Allen, Merle and Clair.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to All Saints Catholic Church.
