Chad Allan Jolson, 37, of Marion, died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017. Family and friends will gather from 1 to
3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, with sharing of memories and military honors beginning at 3 p.m. at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services in Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his father, Bruce (Nancy Parker) Jolson; his love, Meghann Croy, and her children, Zeke, Madeline, Aidan, Finlay, Penelope, Ruby and Liam; several aunts, uncles and cousins, especially his uncle, Scott Jolson; his dog, Dakota (Biggles); and his former wife and friend, Heidi Ide.
Chad was born July 2, 1980, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Bruce and Cynthia (Hamlin) Jolson. He graduated from Baker University with a Bachelor of Science and the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts. Chad proudly and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army and Reserves, attaining the rank of staff sergeant. He also received the honor and title of colonel from the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
He will be remembered for his keen sense of humor and as a smart aleck who spoke his mind with intelligence. His values for honesty and integrity will be just a few of the things his family and friends will miss.
Chad recently worked as an insurance inspector, but also spent time with a sheriff's department in Kansas and working with Blackwater.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Cynthia; and his grandparents.
