Chad Albert passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2025 surrounded by his loved ones in his home. Chad was diagnosed with glioblastoma on June 21, 2024. Chad fought a long, hard, and brave battle until his last day with his loved ones by his side every moment.
Chad was born on January 31, 1979 in Marengo, Iowa. Chad went to Benton Community High School and continued his education at Kirkwood Community College. Chad worked at IFF as a logistics analyst for 19 years. He made lifelong friends everywhere he went.
Chad married Ashley Mears on May 14, 2005; this May would have been their 20th wedding anniversary. Their love was immeasurable. Chad and Ashley had a son Maddux in 2006. Maddux was and is the center of their world. Their favorite pastime was playing baseball, going fishing together, and going on family trips every year.
Chad will always be known for how funny, sarcastic, and loving he was, but most of all his loyalty and morality.
Chad wrote his obituary back in August because he wanted to take as much work off of Ashley and Maddux’s plate as he could. That spoke for the type of human being he was. He wanted to make sure he thanked the entire Mears family and Richard Schmidt for being by his side daily, helping take care of him, his wife, and son until the end, and to this day.
Chad and Ashley want to thank our friends who are like family and are always there for us. They also want to thank the amazing medical teams at Mercy, Northwestern Medical in Chicago, and Mercy Hospice who took great care of Chad. Mercy Hospice helped provide care to make sure Chad was comfortable in his home as well as cared for Ashley and Maddux.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Ashley and Maddux directly the GoFundMe account (https://gofund.me/0ff2b249) or to Teahen Funeral Home, 3100 F Ave NW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52405 and they will be given to the family.
A visitation will be held at Teahen Funeral Home on Friday, April 4, 2025 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. with a short service following at 6 p.m. for those that wish to attend. A private scattering of ashes and burial will be done at a later date.
