Cecilia Agnes Horn, 83, of Marion, Iowa, passed away peacefully Monday, Sept. 13, 2021, in her home surrounded by her loving family. The visitation is from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, 2021, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom. The funeral Mass is at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Cecilia was born Aug. 31, 1938, in Harpers Ferry, Iowa, to Thomas and Alberta (Melaven) Cavanaugh. She completed high school and then graduated at the top of her class from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. After nursing school, Cecilia met Charles Henry Horn. They were married June 9, 1961, in Iowa City, Iowa.
Cecilia was a stay-at-home mother, raising seven amazing children. She enjoyed gardening, baking, and volunteering for Meals on Wheels with her children. Cecilia cherished children and her faith and believed to the very end that simple kindness matters. She supported conservation endeavors as well, locally and abroad, and instilled in her family a strong sense of respect and responsibility for the outdoors, the environment and children around the world. Cecilia loved "The Sound of Music," simple food and a nice cup of tea.
Cecilia is survived by her loving husband, Charles; and her children, Susan (Dave) Erenberger of Solon, Iowa, Michael Horn of Puerto Rico, Brian (Lynn) Horn of California, Julie (Larson) Cavanaugh-Bill of Nevada, Debbie (Brian) Lawrence of Anamosa, Iowa, Amy (Dan) Penley of Center Point, Iowa and Lisa (Tod) Neidt of Ohio. Cecilia also is survived by grandchildren Kristofer and Mariah of Susan, Jason and Casey of Brian, Julie Marie and Charli of Julie, Josephine and Amber of Debbie, Korey, Scarlett and Bryce of Amy, and Jacob, Caleb and Lincoln of Lisa. Cecilia has 11 great-grandchildren, including one on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings, Mary M. Cavanaugh, Joan Cavanaugh, Michael Cavanaugh, Patricia Cavanaugh Delphey, Joseph Cavanaugh, Mary Cavanaugh Ohm, Therese Cavanaugh Styers, Paul Cavanaugh and Jean Cavanaugh.
