Catherine Davis Soberg, 87, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Jan. 11, 2016, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Concordia Lutheran Church by the Rev. Brad Brown. Burial: 2 p.m. Thursday at Oakland Cemetery in Manchester. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Teahen Funeral Home and after 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Catherine is survived by four children, Cheryl Detlefsen of Cedar Rapids, Jaci (Douglas) Bell of Reasnor, Robert (Odena) of Cedar Rapids and Lynn (Richard) Merten of Sully; eight grandchildren, Jennifer (Mark) Novotny of Robins, David (Vicky) Bell of Sully, Karen (Vince) Buls of Tipton, Mark Bell of Killduff, Wayne (Amy Hunter) Soberg of Cedar Rapids, Benjamin (Shari) Davis of Brandon, S.D., Laura (Chad) Thomas of Dodge Center, Minn., and Nathan Soberg of Mount Sterling; 10 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Richard (Lorna) Davis of Monticello.
Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; parents, Ervin and Mildred; and brother, Kenneth.
Catherine Martha Marie Davis was born April 26, 1928, in Dundee, the daughter of Ervin and Mildred Jeske Davis. She graduated from Monticello High School in 1946. Catherine married Elmer Soberg on Sept. 9, 1948, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Monticello. She was a longtime member of Concordia Lutheran Church.
Catherine loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed fishing, hunting and reading and was an award winning quilter.
The family would like to thank Mercy Hospice End of Life Care for their kind and compassionate care they gave Catherine.
