Catherine M. Nye, 91, of Coralville, died Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at Lantern Park Nursing & Rehab Center. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lensing's Oak Hill in Coralville. Services will begin 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville.
The family requests memorials to a charity or organization of their choice.
Born March 29, 1922, in St. Louis, Mo., the daughter of W. Homer and Evelyn (Smith) Moseley, Catherine grew up in Michigan. She graduated with honors from St. Joseph's School of Nursing, receiving her RN degree, and immediately went to work as a surgical nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital in Detroit. In 1950, she decided to continue her education and become a physician and attended medical school at the University of Iowa in Iowa City.
Catherine put her career on hold as she met and married the man of her dreams, William Nye, on Aug. 16, 1952. She then devoted her time to raising their eight children.
Catherine was route supervisor and was in charge of distribution for The Coralville Courier and The Interstate Shopper. She worked at Kirkwood Elementary School from 1973 to 2006, managing the lunch program. She finally decided to retire at age 84.
Catherine is survived by her children, William Nye II of Cantrall, Ill., Cathy Nye of Evergreen, Colo., Bob Nye of Iowa City, Susan Eggert (Jeff) of Conway, Ark., Jim Nye of Coralville, Jerry Nye of Coralville, Tom Nye of Oak Park, Calif., and Don Nye of Iowa City; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Her parents, her husband, sister Marjorie and brother Jerry died before her.
