Catherine "Cate" (Bedell) Giannetto, 66, of Newton, passed away surrounded by her family and friends on March 12, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. A celebration of Cate's life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22, at the UAW Hall, 1813 First St. N., Newton.
Memorials to Exceptional Opportunities in Burt, Iowa, may be brought to the celebration or to the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton.
Cate, the daughter of Bennett and Elizabeth (Blazek) Bedell, was born April 21, 1947, in Cedar Rapids. She grew up in Cedar Rapids and graduated from Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School and Young's Beauty School. She had worked at Turner Microphone in Cedar Rapids before moving to Marshalltown and working at Marshalltown Manufacturing. She then moved to Newton, where she resided for more than 30 years. She was a production worker for The Maytag Co., from where she later retired.
Cate enjoyed coffee clubs at Midtown Cafe and Hy-Vee. She also liked playing Bingo, traveling and taking road trips.
Those left to honor Cate's memory include her son, Brent Giannetto of Burt; her sisters, Betty Bedell of Cedar Rapids, Arlene (Dick) Lewis of Cedar Rapids, Donna (Jim) Norris of Greenwood, Ind., and Mary (Clark) Malmer of Eldridge; many nieces and nephews; and her good friends, Gary and Laurie Barrett and their family of Newton.
Cate was preceded in death by her parents.
Cate's family would like to say thank you to family and friends for their loyal support during this time.
