Catherine “Cathy” Marie Holub, 79, of Prairieburg, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at the Monticello Nursing & Rehab Center. The family will greet friends from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 24, 2025, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City, Iowa, with a Vigil Service beginning at 3:30 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prairieburg, Iowa. Inurnment will follow at Prairieburg Cemetery.
Cathy was born on September 21, 1946, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Marie (Prause) Oberbrockling. A proud graduate of Cascade High School, Class of 1965, Cathy embarked on a career that spanned over four decades. She worked as a teller for Monticello State Bank, where her friendly demeanor and commitment to service endeared her to countless customers and colleagues alike. On October 21, 1967, Cathy was united in marriage to Keith Holub in Cascade, Iowa.
Cathy found joy not only in her professional life but also in the simple pleasures of leisure. She cherished moments spent camping and fishing, often sharing these experiences with friends and family. Her love of travel allowed her to explore new places and create lasting memories, moments that she often recounted with enthusiasm and fondness. An active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prairieburg, Cathy was deeply rooted in her faith, which served as a guiding light throughout her life. Her social nature enabled her to connect quickly with people, fostering friendships that spanned years. Cathy's legacy of kindness, social warmth, and community involvement will be felt by all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Cathy is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of 58 years, Keith Holub; brother, James (Joanne) Oberbrockling of Solon, Iowa; nieces and nephews, Matt (Marsha) Oberbrockling, Mike Oberbrockling (Jessica Stecklein), Craig (Valerie) Oberbrockling, and Lindsay (Chad) Weinschenk; and nine great-nieces and -nephews and three great-great-nephews and -niece.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gerry Oberbrockling; and sister, Roseanne Oberbrockling.
The family would like to give a special thank-you to Above and Beyond Hospice, especially Angie and Tammy, and the staff of the Monticello Nursing & Rehab Center for the care shown to Cathy and her family.
