Catherine “Cathy” Barry (Daywitt), 73, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Monday, Aug. 1, 2022, from a long illness. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, at St. Matthew Catholic Church. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 17, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. where a rosary will begin at 7 p.m. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Cathy was a lifelong resident of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was born on May 14, 1949, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of George and Catherine Daywitt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, John; her first husband, Alan Langer; and son, Larry.
Cathy was a graduate of the Jefferson High School Class of ’67 and worked as an editor publisher for many years at the Western Fraternal Life Association in Cedar Rapids.
Cathy was a gentle soul who shared her beautiful smile with everyone she met. Cathy and her husband of 21 years, Mike Barry, greatly enjoyed spending time with their extended family including her son, Bill, stepdaughter, Jacquelyn and stepgranddaughter, Rilyn.
Cathy with her quick wit, always brought a smile to her sister Sue; brother, Jim; her three nieces, Marie, Heather and Rebecca; two nephews, John and Matt; and four great-nephews and three great-nieces.
Cathy became a certified scuba diver and enjoyed traveling with Mike and local divers extensively around the Caribbean and Lake Michigan. Later in life, when Cathy could no longer dive, Cathy enjoyed her time being in Estes Park, Colo. She is a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church.
