Catherine C. Beasley was born July 21, 1934, in Iowa City, the daughter of Leo and Helen (Patterson) Beasley. Attending Iowa City Schools, she graduated from City High School in 1952. Cathy married Duane Anderson on May 22, 1953, in Cedar Rapids, and before Duane’s death in 2021, the couple had celebrated 68 years of marriage. For many years and for many families of this area, she provided child care at her home. “Another Mom to many kids.”
Cathy and Duane enjoyed wintering in Las Vegas, where she enjoyed the casinos. Cathy was always there for her family, active in all the kids activities as they were growing up, and this continued on with the grandchildren too. She was the backbone of their family as there was nothing more important to her than her family and her kids she cared for!
Cathy’s family includes: two sons, Jack (Kim Schlabach) Anderson and Scott (Tammi) Anderson; two daughters, Debra Plath and Jill (Steve) Skay; daughter-in-law, Diane (Bob) Meyer; nine grandchildren, Nicholas (Melissa) Anderson, Angela Poggenpohl, Mallory (Trevor) Zielinski, Jessica (Scott) Hubbard, Michael (Jordan) Plath, McKenzie Anderson, Amanda (Marcus) Lankford, Mark (Haley) Plath and Shana (Vinny Picardi) Skay; 15 great-grandchildren; and Cathy’s sister, Florence Hagen.
Cathy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Duane; one son, James Leo Anderson; a son-in-law, Todd M. Plath; and siblings, Bruce Beasley, Mary Ellen Steninger, Herbert Beasley, Arthur Beasley, Jane Hanrahan, Frank Beasley, Renata Miller and Nellie Sindelar.
Cathy’s family would like to thank everyone at Lantern Park Care Center and Care Initiatives Hospice for their compassionate care and support. Her family would also like to thank Sheila Whitlock and Deb Locher for their compassionate and excellent care during the past several years.
