Catherine A. “Cathy” Lacina, age 65, lifelong resident of this area, died Sunday, December 15, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Funeral Mass will be held 11 am Saturday, December 21, 2024, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in West Branch. Visitation will be from 9 am Saturday until service time at the church. Burial will be at the West Branch Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Cathy’s memory The Village Community (address: 5305 Herbert Hoover Hwy NE, West Branch, IA 52358). Catherine Ann Lacina was born June 23, 1959, in Iowa City, Iowa the daughter of Donald and Marilyn (Vitosh) Lacina. Growing up near West Branch, she attended West Branch High School and graduated in 1977, as a junior she was the individual medalist in golf for the Eastern Iowa Hawkeye Conference tournament. She then attended Kirkwood Community College receiving her associate’s degree and Mount Mercy College receiving her Bachelor’s degree all in accounting. She worked for a number of years at Iowa Iron Works and then was employed at ACT. Cathy enjoyed doing all sorts of crafts, being with family and friends and most recently served as the Residence Ambassador at Walden Place, where she simply loved calling home! She will be greatly missed by her dog Sunny.
Her family includes her father, Don; her siblings, Ron Lacina, Mark Lacina (Jenny Lee) Jan Zenisek (Andy), Al Lacina (Jill), Sandy Gerard, Wendy Lacina, and Mike Lacina (Sonya); and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Marilyn; and sister, Theresa Lacina.
