Cassman, Henry Vernon
Henry Vernon Cassman, 81, died Sunday afternoon, Nov. 13, 2011, at the Good Neighbor Home, Manchester. Memorial Service: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, at the Delhi United Methodist Church, Delhi, with the Rev. Mary Green officiating. Inurnment: Evergreen Cemetery, Delhi.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis of Manchester; three children, Richard (Bonnie) Cassman of Long Beach, Calif., Patricia (Charles) Van Every of Phoenix, Ariz., and Brian (Liz) Cassman of Manchester; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one brother, Leroy Cassman of Hampton.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Augusta Kluiter and Louisa Busma; and one brother, Harold Cassman.
Henry was born April 5, 1930, at Breckenridge, Minn., to Henry and Elizabeth (Lursen) Cassman. He attended rural school in Butler County, Iowa. Henry served honorably in the Army National Guard.
Henry was united in marriage to Phyllis Ann Thatcher on May 5, 1950. Three children were born to this union. Together they farmed until 1963, when they moved to Manchester. Henry was the Eastern Iowa sales manager for Super Sweet Feeds, until retiring in 1993. Henry and Phyllis moved to Lake Delhi and resided there until returning to Manchester in 1999. Henry has been at the Good Neighbor Home since July 2011.
He will be remembered as one who loved his family and enjoyed square dancing. Henry was a longtime member of the Delhi Lions Club and served as president. Henry and Phyllis were past members of the Country Cousins Square Dancing Club.
