Cassaday, Phyllis E.
Phyllis E. Cassaday, 78, of Independence, died Tuesday, March 26, 2013, in Independence surrounded in love by her children and grandchildren.
She was born May 10, 1934, in Indianola, Iowa, the daughter of Frank Nelson Miller and Clarinda Jane (Ogan) Miller. She graduated from Des Moines North High School and then on Nov. 8, 1953, she was united in marriage to Larry Vincent Cassaday in Des Moines. They moved to Independence around 1965. Larry preceded her in death on Dec. 6, 2010.
Mrs. Cassaday is survived by two sons, Steven Cassaday of Independence and Douglas (Carol) Cassaday of Independence; two daughters, Jean “Tina” Thompson and friend Craig Book of Ames and Heidi (Kevin) Tudor of Independence; five grandchildren, Jake Thompson, Cassidi Thompson, Brooke Reed, Brittany Cassaday and Chloe Tudor; two great-granddaughters, Marlo Thompson and Eva Thompson and another great grandchild expected to join the family in April 2013; two sisters, Jeannie P'Pool of Idaho Falls, Idaho and Dorothy (Norman) Beck of Des Moines; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; and a son-in-law, Keith Thompson in 1998.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, March 30, at First United Methodist Church, Independence. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Independence. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. services Saturday at the church, where there also will be a P.E.O. memorial service at noon Saturday.
