Cashman, Ron
Ron Cashman, 60, lost his courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, July 7, 2013. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., Vinton, with Chaplain Mary Arnold officiating. Interment will be held at Big Grove Cemetery, near Garrison. Friends can register at the funeral home, one hour before the service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
Ron was born in Vinton on Feb. 20, 1953, to Donald and Margaret (Kelley) Cashman and graduated from George Washington High School in Cedar Rapids in 1971. Ron was an avid reader, also enjoying art, music, camping, biking and trail walking. He had an excellent mind and had a great deal of knowledge on many topics including Civil War History and World War II.
He is survived by his parents of Cedar Rapids; his sister, Julie Bramow; nephew, Ray Cashman; aunt, Irene Cashman; uncle, John (Mardene) Kelley of Vinton; niece, Katheena (Casey) Shannon; great-niece and nephews, Jaeden, James and Jonathan of Cedar Rapids; and several cousins.
Ron was preceded in death by his son, Jacob Merck; maternal grandparents, John and Laura Kelley; and paternal grandparents, Edgar and Rebecca Cashman.
