Carter, Mary O.

Mary O. Carter, 85, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, at Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty. A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Mary was born Feb. 5, 1927, in West Liberty, Iowa, the daughter of Dewey and Marcia (Curtis) Patterson. She was a graduate of West Liberty High School in the class of 1944 and attended Iowa City Mercy Nursing School. On June 22, 1962, she was united in marriage to A. J. “Bud” Carter.

She had been employed with Owens Brush Co., the West Liberty school system in the lunchroom and the Simpson Memorial Home. She enjoyed the outdoors, spending time at their cabin on the Cedar River and fishing. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading and the time spent with her family and grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Bud Carter of West Liberty; four children, Sherry Grable (Wayne Hartwig) of Solon, Terry (Ramonne) Hudson of Davie, Fla., Robert (Mary) Hudson of Fairfax and James Hudson of Iowa City; four grandchildren, Heather (Ray) Carrizales, Marcy (Kurt) Weber, Eric Hudson and Sonia Hudson; six great-grandchildren, Maya, Cole, Ava and Cade CoCCarrizales and Whitney and Kalli Weber; sister, Norma Bryan of Pensacola, Fla.; and brothers, Robert (Janet) Patterson of West Des Moines and Richard (Betsy) Patterson of Muscatine.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial fund has been established.
