Carte, Clifford Eugene
Clifford Eugene Carte, 79, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, at Rock Ridge Residential Care Center in Shellsburg. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 East Sixth St., Vinton. Visitation also will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, at the Presbyterian Church in Green City, Mo. Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Monday at Ruschmeier Funeral Home in Green City, Mo. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Green City. Graveside military rites will be conducted by King-Walker-Custer American Legion Post 365 of Green City.
Clifford was born Nov. 10, 1932, to Harry Vincent and Elvirene Martin Carte in Kirksville, Mo. He served his nation in the United States Navy in the Korean War on the U.S.S. Lewis Destroyer Escort. Clifford worked for the Vinton Shellsburg school district as a bus driver or “angel hauler” as he called it for 17 ½ years. He was a member of Ray and Virginia Boyer American Legion Post 116 in Shellsburg and in his leisure enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his three sons, Dennis (Pam) Carte of Green City, Mo., David (Kris) Carte of Atkins and Kevin (Barb) Carte of Williamsburg; two daughters, Cathleen (Dan) Vollbrecht of Atkins and Karen (Joseph) Jackson of Lathrop, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Connie (Charles “Russell”) Alexander of Green City, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren, Christopher and Katie Jo Carte.
A memorial fund has been established in Clifford's name to be used for macular degeneration research.
