Carson, Kathleen
Kathleen Carson of Iowa City died peacefully at Oaknoll Retirement Residence on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013. A gathering of family and friends has been planned from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 29, at the Lensing Funeral Home, 605 Kirkwood Ave., Iowa City.
A general memorial fund has been established in her memory.
Kathleen was born May 26, 1922, the daughter of Malon and Fay Stover Amish. She was raised on a farm west of Hills and graduated from Iowa City High School. Kathleen married Robert Carson on Oct. 19, 1944, at First Presbyterian Church (now Old Brick) in Iowa City. She and Robert raised their family and farmed for many years west of Iowa City. In their later years, they spent their winters in Mesa, Ariz., at Silver Ridge Park.
Obits body copy_44: Kathleen was known for her cooking and baking. She operated a cake decorating business for many years out of her home. She designed, baked and decorated cakes for all occasions for many people throughout the area. She was a member of the 4-Seasons Garden Club and applied her artistic talents by creating decorative plant arrangements. She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother and loved having her family together.
Survivors included her four children, Tom (Linda) Carson of Newberg, Ore., Jim (Ardie) Carson of Mount Pleasant, Steve (Mary Beth) Carson of Iowa City and Becky (Tom) Albertson of Bettendorf; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert in 2000; her brother, Howard Amish; and sister, LuAnn Rank.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Oaknoll for their compassionate care and friendship.
