Carroll Joe Halva, 80, of Walford, died Thursday,
Nov. 8, 2018, at home from complications of Lewy body dementia. Services: 5 p.m. Tuesday at Teahen Funeral Home with visitation following until 7 p.m. Private family burial at Hala Cemetery.
Carroll is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, Mary; daughter, Jeanine (Glen) Halva Neubauer of
Greenville, S.C.; two sons, Roland Halva of Shoreview, Minn., and Rodney Halva of Decatur, Ill.; two grandsons, Tyler Halva of St. Paul, Minn., and Orion Halva of San Diego, Calif.; brother, Gary (Karen) Halva of West Union; two brothers-in-law, John (Betty) Decker of Walker and Ben (Joyce) Decker of Ponder, Texas; aunt, Rosemary (Les) Kampman of Vinton; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Loren.
Carroll was born on June 1, 1938, in Brandon, the son of Rudolph and Dortha Garlick Halva, and graduated from Washington High School, Vinton, in 1955. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in engineering from Iowa State University, Ames, and a Master of Science degree in geology from the University of Arizona, Tucson. He married Mary Decker in December of 1956 in Independence.
A native of Iowa, Carroll's many leadership roles led him to live in numerous states and work as plant manager for several companies, such as Collins, Data General, Sanmina Corporation and HughesNet, retiring in 2000. Carroll traveled throughout the world, yet he was happiest when living quietly on his farm in Iowa, tending to his yard and overseeing his farmland.
Carroll loved spending time with his family, especially his grandsons, and cheering on multiple Iowa State University and University of Iowa teams, most notably as an unofficial coach and analyst. He will be deeply missed.
Special thanks to Laurie for her supportive caregiving services during these last few years. The family is deeply grateful for her faithful, compassionate care.
