Dan, or Danny as many have known him, was born May 5, 1948, in Iowa City, the son of Harold and Meridith (Scheetz) Barnhart. A short time after graduation from high school in West Branch, Danny began a career with the University of Iowa as Assistant Project Manager for Parking and Transportation which spanned over 40 years before his retirement. He was a Masonic member of Wapsinonoc Lodge 381. He enjoyed much in this world, the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and hunting for mushrooms and playing Gin Rummy with his good friend, Ron. He was very good at his woodworking and could figure out most anything; how to make it, fix it or walk away from it! Out of his wood working came many projects given to family and friends. But most near and dear to him were his family and dear friends.
His family includes his wife, Nancy; his daughters, Lara Barnhart, Jodi Barnhart (son JD Turner); brother, Tom Barnhart; sister, Jerry Schwartz (Gary); nephew, Justin Schwartz; niece, Jana Schwartz; stepdaughters, Kristen Decker (Paul), Jamie Garrett and Miki Garrett; 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
