Carrol V. Voelkers, 91, a resident of the Meth-Wick Community died there on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2014, after a long illness. Services with military rites at 11 a.m. Friday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories where friends may call after 10 a.m. Friday. Entombment at Cedar Memorial Chapel Mausoleum. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include a daughter, Caroline of Rock Hill, S.C.; and son, Larry (Dawn) and their children, Katherine and Sarah of Minneapolis, Minn.; and two brothers, Darrell "Chip" of Wheatland and Ellsworth of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lois; and two sisters, Ethel and Luella.
Carrol was born on Sept. 29, 1923, in Plain View, Iowa, the son of Orval and Ella Bentrott Voelkers. He graduated from Wheatland High School and later from the University of Iowa with a bachelor of science degree.
He married Lois A. Voelkers on Sept. 29, 1956, in Cedar Rapids. Lois passed away in September 2014.
Carrol was the financial officer at Pioneer Office Products for 30 years. On Dec. 1, 1979, he and his wife opened their own business, Voelkers Office Products, retiring in 1992.
He was a member of the Institute of Management Accountants of which he was a 50-year member and president of the Cedar Rapids Chapter in 1965, the National Accountants Association and volunteered at the Cedar Rapids Community Theater.
Carrol served 33 months in the Army during World War II including battalion headquarters with companies having fuel on the Red Bull Express supporting Patton's tanks. Carrol enjoyed playing golf, gardening, reading financial books and newspapers, bird watching, travel and two years ago had the opportunity of going on an Honor Flight with his daughter.
Carrol was a wonderful husband, father, brother and grandfather whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
Memorial donations may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
