Carolyn M. Vial, 78, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018, in UnityPoint-St. Luke's
Hospital surrounded by her family after a short, courageous battle with cancer. Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of
Memories by St. Luke's Chaplain Wyatt Dagit. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include her sons, Kevin (Ruth) Vial of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Brian (Kyong Kim) of Alabama; her grandson, Jake Vial of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; her siblings, Kathleen "Katie" (Don) Birkey of Manson, Iowa, Marilyn (Ken) Dayton of Pocahontas, Iowa, and Gordon George of Maxwell, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Vial; her parents; and her siblings, Kenneth A. George, Duane R. George, Richard E. George and Yvonne D. Holmes.
Carolyn was born Aug. 9, 1940, in Pomeroy, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Myrtle (Cassen) George. She graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1958. She was united in marriage to Harold Edmund Vial on May 6, 1962, in Pomeroy, Iowa. Carolyn was a bookkeeper, working in various companies in Cedar Rapids until her retirement in 2015. She enjoyed following the Iowa Hawkeyes, reading, crossword puzzles, playing cards and spending time with her family and friends. She especially cherished her only grandchild, Jake, and her two dogs, Maddie and Callie. She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her.
