Mrs. Carolyn J. Smith, 75, of Marshalltown, formerly of Galesburg, Ill., died 12:25 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, 2015, at Methodist Hospital, Des Moines.
She was born Sept. 28, 1939, in Floyd County, Iowa, to Lyle P. and Myrna Eliza Scandrett Jepson. She married LaVern "Lee" Smith in 1972 in Cedar Rapids. He survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Brian (and Deborah) Smith of Hanover Park, Ill., Kent (and Diane) Smith of Coralville and Craig (and Laurie) Smith of Richmond, Va.; a daughter, Michelle (and William) Henry of England; a brother, Birkley Jepson of Ankeny; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She was the office manager for Smith Enterprise in Galesburg and retired in 2012.
She graduated from Nashua (Iowa) High School in 1958. She graduated from Moody Bible Institute, Chicago, in 1963 and the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, in 1969. She taught second grade at Linn-Mar school district in Iowa for several years.
She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Galesburg, and Pilot Club International. She enjoyed reading, knitting, crocheting and ceramics. She was also active in missionary work in the Ukraine.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at Bethel Baptist Church, Galesburg, Ill. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Baptist Church Cemetery, Colmar, Ill.
Memorials may be made to Moody Bible Institute, Chicago; Bethel Baptist Church; and Galesburg Rescue Mission.
