CAROLYN (KAHLE) MECKLENBURG
Blairstown
Carolyn (Kahle) Mecklenburg, 71, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2018, following a sudden illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, at St. John Catholic Church in Blairstown with Father Craig Steimel as celebrant. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill
Cemetery, Blairstown. Visitation will also be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church. A memorial fund has been established. Phillips Funeral Home in Blairstown is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.phillipsfuneralhomes.com.
Carolyn was born Sept. 13, 1947, to Sylvester and Irene (Kvetensky) Kahle in Cedar Rapids. She graduated from Benton Community High School, Blairstown Center, in 1965. She worked at Rockwell Collins for several years. Carolyn was united in marriage to Merrill Mark Mecklenburg on Nov. 14, 1970, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Watkins. She enjoyed coaching and watching her children and grandchildren at sporting events. Carolyn enjoyed Hawkeye sports, gardening, golfing and cooking. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church and M.J. Kirby American Legion Auxiliary.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Merrill; her children, Michael (Sara) Mecklenburg and Melissa (Brett) Lerch; five grandchildren, Abigail, Brody and Kaitlyn Mecklenburg and Aidan and Reece Lerch; her brothers, Jim (Mary) Kahle and Robert (Marge) Kahle; her sister, Marchell Kahle; nieces, Rachel (Pickart) Lathrop, Erin (Pickart) Schulte and Courtney (Kahle) Crowdes; nephews, Thad Pickart, USAF Col. Damien (Vanessa) Pickart and Christian (Audra) Kahle; and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Steven John Kahle; her grandparents; and aunts and uncles.
