Carolyn Kay Kauffman passed away Friday, Oct. 21, 2016, in Kalona at the age of 77 years.
Carolyn was born Aug. 16, 1939, the daughter of Joseph R. and Mabel (Bushman) Miller. She attended country school in Cosgrove and graduated from St. Mary's Catholic School in Iowa City. On June 18, 1958, Carolyn was united in marriage to John F. Kauffman at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City. Carolyn worked for Drs. Zasadny and Manly and in the kitchens at Highland High School and Kalona Elementary School. She was a member of Kalona Christian Fellowship Church, Burning Bush Bible Study and card club in Riverside. She enjoyed dancing, crocheting, cooking, traveling with John, taking care of her huge vegetable garden, and crossword puzzles.
Carolyn is survived by three children, Teresa Myers of Kalona, Amy (Greg) Almeida of Buda, Texas, and Eric Kauffman of Austin, Texas; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John, in 2004; an infant son, David; and two brothers, Leo Miller and Eugene Miller.
Celebration of Life service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, at Kalona Christian Fellowship. Burial will be in Sharon Hill Cemetery, Kalona. Visitation will be Monday, Oct. 24, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona.
A memorial fund has been established for Washington County Hospice.
