Carolyn June Curtis, 90, of Independence, Iowa, passed away on February 11, 2026, at Lexington Estate in the Buchanan County Health Center. A 9:00 AM visitation will be followed by a 10:00 AM service on February 28, 2026, at the Teahen Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Following the service, the family invites all who wish to gather to a celebration of Carolyn’s life at the American Legion Hall on 31st Street in Marion, from noon to 4:00 PM.
Carolyn was born on August 20, 1935 in Vinton, Iowa, the third child of Mahlon and Frances (Aten) Steepleton. She married Jerry Curtis in Biloxi, Mississippi, and raised six children in Bushnell, Illinois, and later Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
She was widowed in 1986 by Jerry’s unfortunate death due to cancer. She split the last forty years between her children, and received end of life care at the Lexington Estate Long Term Care facility in Independence, Iowa.
Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, brothers, one sister, and two grandsons.
She is survived by her six children; Mark, John and Jim (Connie) Curtis and Elaine (Jerry) Smith of Cedar Rapids, Patrice Curtis of Jesup, and Mary VanEe of Independence; twelve grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend their very deepest gratitude to all of the staff at Lexington Estates who made our last memories with her so very special.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a contribution to the Ronald McDonald House.
