CAROLYN J. ROSENBERGER
Cedar Rapids
Carolyn J. Rosenberger, 90, a resident of Higley Mansion Residential Care, passed away early Friday morning, Jan. 11, 2019, at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha.
As per Carolyn's request, there will be no visitation or services. Several Celebration of Life ceremonies with local family and friends will be held this week and with Carolyn's out-of-state relatives this spring. Papich-Kuba Funeral Service, Cedar Rapids, is serving Carolyn's family.
Carolyn is survived by her sons, Steven (Laura) of Amana, Iowa, and Michael of Ingleside, Ill. She also is survived by many relatives and friends whom she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Anton "Tony" and Agnes (Cacek) Tresnak; brothers, Leonard, George and Paul Tresnak; and her son, Larry, who died in a car accident when he was 17 years of age.
Carolyn was born on April 19, 1928, in Cedar Rapids, and was a lifelong resident. She married Gerald Rosenberger in 1951. They later divorced.
Carolyn worked as a secretary at the YMCA. She was later employed as a waitress at the Shorewood Restaurant and later the Cedar Rapids Country Club. Carolyn worked at Harnischfeger for 10 years until being laid off from her job. She was then employed at Vigortone Products as a secretary until her retirement.
In her retirement, Carolyn took up walking. Many days she would walk three to four miles, usually four or five days per week, and kept up this walking routine until she was in her early 80s. She loved to play word games, especially Scrabble, and she usually won. Carolyn enjoyed watching "Wheel of Fortune" on television, loved to read and complete the crossword puzzles in the Cedar Rapids Gazette.
After moving to Higley Mansion two-and-a-half months ago, she again started walking – usually three to four laps, three or four times per day around the first floor. The short time she was there, Carolyn loved living at Higley Mansion until going to Hospice House of Mercy on Jan. 9, 2019.
Michael and Steven would like to thank everyone who remembered their mother with well wishes and prayers during her brief illness. To the staff at both Higley Mansion and Hospice House, thank you for the exceptional and tender loving care that you provided to our Mom over the past several months.
Special thanks to Troy Sutter, a wonderful landlord and special friend to our mom for 18 years.
Memorials may be given to Safe Haven of Iowa County or Hospice of Mercy in Hiawatha.
