Carolyn J. Amelon, 71, of rural Iowa City, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at home.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 5, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, where a time of visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be made to Iowa City Hospice.

Carolyn Jane Spenner was born July 16, 1944, on her family farm in rural Johnson County, daughter of Albert and Lillian (Maier) Spenner. She graduated from Iowa City's City High School. She was united in marriage to Dean Amelon on Aug. 22, 1964, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Iowa City. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper for Amelon Construction and Bon Aire.
Carolyn always enjoyed her time spent with family, shopping and cooking with grandchildren, traveling with Dean to the mountains, preparing cooked meals and baked goods for everyone's delight and keeping up with her flower beds.
Her family includes her husband, Dean; sons, Mike and Ron (Chris) Amelon, both of Iowa City; two grandchildren, Ben and Jordan; three sisters, Phyllis Zahradnek of Kalona, Delores Zahradnek of Iowa City and Mary Carter of Frisco, Texas; Dean's siblings, Duane Amelon (Joyce) of Oxford and Joan Collins of Marshfield, Mo.; as well as numerous extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law.
