Carole June (Unzeitig) Ryan, 85, of Glendale, Ariz., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, July 3, 2019, at Kristal Bell Assisted Living in Glendale. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 12, at St. Ludmila Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends from 8:30 a.m. until Mass time before the service at the church. The family also will greet friends at a reception immediately following the Mass at St. Ludmila Parish Center. Graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, July 12, at Calvary Cemetery, Stuart, Iowa. Arrangements entrusted to Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids.
Carole was born March 21, 1934, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Milvoy and Julia (Kuda) Unzeitig. She was a 1952 graduate of Wilson High School. Carole was united in marriage to Vincent M. Ryan on Aug. 23, 1952, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. They were married 63 years upon Vincent's death in 2016.
Carole was an active member of St. Ludmila Church. She was a homemaker and previously had worked with Equitable Insurance, Trinity United Methodist Church, Accurate Bookkeeping and the Cedar Rapids school system.
Carole greatly enjoyed family gatherings, attending kids' activities and traveling. She also was a den mother. She was talented at crocheting; she made afghans for her children and grandchildren, along with many dish cloths. Carole was proud of her Czech heritage. She also enjoyed watching "oldies" on TV, especially Lawrence Welk.
Carole is survived by her children, Marjorie (Jerry) Lokenvitz of Sun Prairie, Wis., John (Sharon) Ryan of Versailles, Ky., Julie (Dwayne) Hensch of Cedar Rapids, Mary (Rick) Baker of Glendale, Ariz., Diane (Terry) Bagley of Cedar Rapids and Joseph (Christina) Ryan of Clinton; 12 grandchildren, Jennifer Lokenvitz Schwitzer, Diana Lokenvitz, Cliffton Bagley, Benjamin Bagley, Jackie Ryan-Shepard, Matthew Hensch, Reid Baker, Sarai Baker, Julianna Holmes, Nicholas Hensch, Kelsey Ryan and Brody Ryan; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vincent; brother, Howard Unzeitig; and sister, Marilynn Gaskill.
