Carol Elaine Small, 74, formerly of Tipton, died peacefully with her family at her side on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017, in Premier Estates of Muscatine. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017, at 11 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall in the Wesley United Methodist Church, Muscatine, with Pastor Bruce Ursin officiating. Family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. before the service. A luncheon will follow and is open to all who attend. Online condolences may be shared at www.fryfuneralhome.com. A general memorial fund has been established in her honor.
Carol was born on July 18, 1943, in Iowa City, Iowa. She was the daughter of Earl William and Clara Emily Dauber Nighbert. Carol grew up in the Springdale area and graduated from West Branch High School. She worked for years at Owens Brush (Oral-B) in Iowa City. Carol was united in marriage to William H. Small on Sept. 2, 1977 in Iowa City. Together they owned Billeros Tap in Iowa City. Carol cleaned homes for 20-plus years until her retirement and they enjoyed life in Arkansas until health issues brought them back home to Iowa.
Carol is survived by her husband, Bill Small of Muscatine, Iowa; children, Matthew (Mary Anne) Alberhasky of Muscatine, Iowa, Robert (Cheryl) Alberhasky of Lone Tree, Iowa, Paul (Barbara) Alberhasky of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jeri (Tom) Freeman of California, Scott Small of Iowa City, Iowa, Doug (Guylia) Small of Iowa City, Iowa, and Toby Billick of Tipton, Iowa; sister, Marilyn (Larry) Sexton of Downey, Iowa; 23 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; and one brother.
