Carol Patricia “Pat” Martin, 95, passed away peacefully July 3, 2024, at Presbyterian Homes of Bloomington, MN with family by her side.
A Celebration of Life Service will take place on Friday, August 2, 2024, at 1:30 pm. at HallMar Village, 8900 C Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52302. Visitation with the family starts at 12:30 pm. Dessert and coffee will also follow the service.
Pat is survived by her children: Stephen (Julie) Martin of St. Louis, MO; David (Terri) Martin of Cedar Rapids, Rebecca (Kris) Koopman of Gilbertville, IA, Deborah (Rich Grundman) Melchert of Eden Prairie, MN; nine grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and one niece.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, nephew, and great-grandson.
Pat was born in Spokane, WA to Clarence P. and Hettie Armstrong (Watkins) on January 3, 1929. Pat had one sister, Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Rodeck (Armstrong). She graduated from Lewis and Clark High School, Spokane, WA in 1947, and married Harold Price Martin, February 11, 1955.
They moved to Iowa in 1958, where Harold and Pat raised four children and served several small Presbyterian churches in Eastern Iowa - Hedrick, Springville, Linn Grove-rural Mt. Vernon, IA and New Windsor, IL. Pat returned to Springville and Marion, IA, until later moving to Presbyterian Homes at Williamsburg, IA in 2014 and then Bloomington, MN in 2016.
Pat provided private In-Home Care to several people in Springville and Marion. She had an amazing gift of offering compassionate, faithful, Christian care.
She served as a Deacon at Springville Presbyterian Church and also on the New Resident Welcome Committee at Presbyterian Homes of Bloomington.
Pat cherished her family and loved to see their pictures and hear their stories. Pat loved creating seasonal floral arrangements, which she shared with others until the time of her death. She also loved music, nature, especially birds, and their melodies.
She was an inspiration to her family and friends of how to live a selfless life of love.
Pat was blessed to receive that same compassionate care at Highland Ridge Presbyterian Home, Williamsburg, IA and then for the last eight years of her life at Presbyterian Homes of Bloomington and Optage Hospice, Bloomington, MN.
Pat and her sister will be remembered with Trees of Life planted in their honor at Hickory Hills Park, La Porte City, IA.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Springville Presbyterian Church, Springville, IA and Presbyterian Homes and Services of Bloomington, MN. Online condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.iowacremation.com.
