Carol Frances Neuzil, 84, died peacefully surrounded by family at her home on Saturday, July 1, 2017.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 6, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Iowa City, with the Very Rev. Rudolph Juarez officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, at St. Patrick Catholic Church Parish Hall, where a vigil starts at 7 p.m.
Memorial donations may be directed to Mercy Hospital Hospice Care or the Alzheimer's Association.
Carol was born April 9, 1933, in Riverside, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Ruth (Thompson) Schnoebelen. On Jan. 22, 1957, Carol married Gregory B. Neuzil in Hills. In 1975, Carol and Greg established Neuzil and Sons Inc. Grading Contractors.
In leisure time, Carol enjoyed crocheting, bowling, playing cards and visiting with friends and family. For many years, Carol, Greg and their children grew melons and had a stand at the Farmers Market and at their home on Olive Court.
Carol is survived by her husband, Greg; her four sons, Dean (Samantha) of San Antonio, Texas, Steve (Stacie) of Iowa City, Keith of Iowa City and Andy (Erica) of Hills; her three daughters, Margaret Neuzil (Gerry Gogel) of Iowa City, Sheryl (Bobby) Beinhart of Iowa City and Linda (John) Slaughter of Cedar Rapids; her brothers, Grant, John and Larry Schnoebelen; and her sisters, Virginia Carmody and Eileen Rogers. Carol also is survived by 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Georgia Albrecht; and brothers, Gordon and Kenneth Schnoebelen.
The family would like to thank Mary Ann, Judy, Fran and all the Mercy Hospital Hospice Care staff for the care they provided Carol. A very special thank-you to their daughter, Sheryl, for assisting from start to finish.
