Carol Jane Weiland, 84, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at the Hiawatha Care Center. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Burial to follow at Cedar Memorial Cemetery.
Born November 26, 1940, in Waukon, Iowa, Carol was one of 6 children born to Clarence and Alvina (Nagel) Klocke. After graduating from Waukon High School, she moved to Marion where she worked for Rockwell Collins and later J-Tec. She met and married her first husband Richard Kummer in 1965. They became the proud parents of Steven Kummer and Kristine Kummer.
After her divorce from Richard, Carol married Joe Weiland in 1975 and was blessed to join the lives of his three children, Dustin, Douglas and Darin. They later divorced and she moved to Cedar Rapids and worked for Oral B in Iowa City, gaining many life-long friendships along the way. She was a strong, independent woman who made it through every adversity stronger and more resilient. She loved to play cards, read and spend time with family, especially her grandchildren, and her friends. She loved cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Green Bay Packers. She had a love for animals, her dog Piere (aka Petie) was her constant companion for 20 years. She also enjoyed tending to her flowers, feeding and watching wildlife near her home.
Her hope is that her love, laughter and smile will never be forgotten.
“Death could not erase her, she is permanent”
Carol is survived by her children, Steven (Tricia) Kummer and Kristine Kummer (Rick Gott); three grandchildren, Trisha Knight (Bradon), Michael (Ciera) Knight and Jasminn (Cody) Wulf, and many great grandchildren; two sisters, Darlene (Neil) Barth of Waukon; Linda Thompson of Waterville; former brother-in-law, John Kula and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Alvina Klocke, two sisters Hazel Rissman and Angela Kula, brother Neil Klocke, and brothers in law, Harvy Rissman and Robert Thompson.
We would like to extend a special Thank you to Hiawatha Care Center and Mercy Hospice staff for easing Carol’s transition.
