Muncie, Ind.
Carol Jane Pinckney, 70, Muncie, Ind., passed away from pancreatic cancer on Monday afternoon, March 8, 2021, at her home where she was surrounded by family and friends.
She was born Sunday, June 4, 1950, in Marion, Ohio, the daughter of Robert Allen and Jane (Uncapher) Smith. Carol graduated from Elgin High School in Elgin, Ohio, and received her Master's degree from Bowling Green University in Bowling Green, Ohio. Carol was a loving and caring person. If you were fortunate enough to have met her, you would not have forgotten her kindness. Carol liked to garden, loved her flowers, enjoyed traveling and the Card Club. She was an outdoors enthusiast, and enjoyed fishing and hiking on the Red-Tail Conservancy trails with her husband. She loved being with her family and friends. Carol was an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes. She volunteered her time and services with Altar Guild and choir at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. She also volunteered at Christian Ministries, Back Bay Mission, and Oakhurst Gardens. She was an officer in the Purdue Extension Homemakers Club. Carol was a special needs teacher for forty-three years and a wonderful child advocate. She taught in Maumee, Ohio, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Cowan, Ind.
Survivors include her husband, John Pinckney; son, Jason Allen Duplaga; daughter, Kara (husband, Eddie) Ellis; mom, Jane Basel; two brothers, Brad Smith (wife, Elaine Oldham Smith) and Mark Smith; two grandchildren, Johnathan Reiber and Lilly Reiber; two nephews, Todd Smith and Scott Smith (wife, Anne Forrester Smith); and their two children, Blake Smith and Sydney Smith.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Allen Smith; and her stepfather, Neal Basel.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 900 West White River Boulevard, Muncie, IN 47303.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, March 13, at the church, with Pastor Jerry O'Neal officiating. This service will be livestreamed through the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Muncie Facebook page. Burial will follow in Elm Ridge Memorial Park.
Elm Ridge Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a mask is required at services and visitation. To be safe, please remember to social distance.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 900 West White River Boulevard, Muncie, IA 47303; and they will be divided by family and given to the church, Project Stepping Stone and The Back Bay Mission.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to her oncologist, Dr. Mark Pajeau, and the IU BMH Cancer Center and Oncology Floor.
