Carol Frantz, 80, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Shepherd of the Valley in Niles, Ohio.
Carol was born on Aug. 1, 1938, in St. Louis. She was a 1956 graduate of Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and received her LPN license from Choffin in Youngstown, Ohio. She was an LPN at Warren General Hospital, before returning to school at Sharon Regional School of Nursing and receiving her RN license in 1989.
She followed her passion as a nurse at St Joe's Hospital in Warren until her retirement in 2009.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and pets, shopping, taking day trips and attending various events in the community. After her retirement, she continued as a volunteer at St. Joe's in the Eastwood Mall and often could be seen walking her beloved dog, Rusty, around town.
Carol leaves behind her children, Gayle Frantz Bowser of McDonald, Bob Frantz (Theresa) of Austintown, Cathy Frantz (Ron) of Louisiana, JoAnne Frantz Carkido (Vinny) of McDonald and Jennifer Frantz of Cuyahoga Falls. She also leaves behind four grandchildren, Jessica Bowser, TJ Bowser (Kayla), Michael Bowser and Tiea Frantz, four great-grandchildren; and her best friend, Mattie Giddings.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Frantz, whom she married on Dec 23, 1958, and her parents from Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Family and friends may visit from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22, at Lane Family Funeral Homes-Mineral Ridge Chapel at 1350 N. Canfield Niles Rd., in Mineral Ridge, Ohio, with a Celebration of Life to follow at 4 p.m.
The family is asking in lieu of flowers and gifts, that donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, in hopes that a cure can be found for future generations.
