Carol E. Carlson, 76, of Manchester, passed away Monday, July 14, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, with her family by her side.
She was born Feb. 5, 1938, in Fort Dodge, the daughter of Andrew and Ella (Nelson) Simonson. Carol was a 1956 graduate of Rolfe High School. She attended Waldorf College, where she received her teaching degree in 1958. She taught for several years in the Lake Mills, Rolfe and Twin Rivers of Bode school districts.
On June 10, 1961, Carol was united in marriage to Les Carlson in Rolfe, Iowa. Three children were born to this union. The family moved to Manchester in 1965. Carol was the children's librarian at the Manchester Public library for 23 years before retiring in 2002.
Carol was a member of the Audubon Society, the Monday morning volunteers at the Manchester Camp Courageous Garage Sale, PEO and the United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed sewing, reading, gardening, baking and shopping. One of Carol's favorite things to do was to sit on their front porch reading or visiting with friends and neighbors.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Les Carlson; her three children, Sonja (Scott) Irlbeck of Marion, Kristin (Richard) Thomas of Asbury and Robert (Adriana) Carlson of Wheaton, Ill.; a granddaughter, Marin Irlbeck; two brothers, Roger (Audrey) Simonson of Rolfe and Lauren (Kayla) Simonson of Clear Lake; a brother-in-law, Art Carlson of Des Plaines, Ill.; and nieces and nephews, Lisa Zegers, David Simonson, Teresa Simonson, Tom Simonson, Les Carlson, Marie Kyllo and Debbie Carlson.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her grandson, Ryan Irlbeck; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Carlson.
Memorials may be directed to the Manchester United Methodist Church, Camp Courageous, Regional Medical Center or St. Luke's Hospice.

Funeral service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 19, at the United Methodist Church, Manchester, by the Rev. Paddy Druhl. Visitation: 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 18, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home, Manchester, and one hour before the service at the church on Saturday. Interment: Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.
