Carol Ann Schlichte, 77, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2022, at Hiawatha Care Center in Hiawatha, Iowa. A memorial service will be held in the spring of 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion, Iowa. Burial will take place at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in Dyersville, Iowa.
Carol was born on March 23, 1945, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Matilda (Manthey) Arens. She graduated from Xavier High School. Carol was united in marriage to Marvin Schlichte on Nov. 4, 1961. To this union, three children were born, Keith, Karla and Lisa. Marvin and Carol divorced in February of 1987. Carol worked for Nash Finch and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was a devoted mother and friend. Carol loved entertaining, playing cards with friends every Thursday afternoon, and enjoyed traveling around the world. She especially loved spending time with her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. Carol will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Carol is survived and lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Karla (Eric) Schlichte-Morse of Carmel, Ind., and Lisa (Barry) Haire of Papillion, Neb.; five grandchildren, Andy (Tylar) Schlichte of Riverside, Iowa, Kelsy (Brandon) Gaede of Omaha, Neb., Brittany Haire of Papillion, Olivia Morse and Aidan Morse, both of Carmel; three great-grandchildren, Carson and Nora Gaede of Omaha, and Addison Schlichte of Riverside; special friend, Curtis Burgin of Marion; and best companion, Razzy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Matilda Arens; and son, Keith Schlichte.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Carol’s memory may be directed to either the Hiawatha Care Center or to Mercy Hospice.
Carol’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Hiawatha Care Center and at Mercy Hospice for the care shown to Carol and her family.
