Carol A. Schrage, 77, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 3, 2021, at home, following a short illness from cancer.
Carol was born on Aug. 8, 1944, in Rock Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Gerrit and Joy (Mapes) Vugteveen. Carol grew up in Iowa and Minnesota, graduating from high school in Austin, Minn.
Carol met Leon Schrage while living in Austin and they were married on Feb. 19, 1966. Carol worked at the University of Iowa for 38 years, primarily in the Communication Studies Department. She enjoyed traveling abroad, shopping trips and socializing with friends and family.
Carol is survived by her husband, Leon of Iowa City, Iowa; a son, Jason of Lawrence, Kan.; a sister, Mary Halverson of Rochester, Minn.; brother-in-Law, Eugene Schrage of St. Ansgar, Iowa; sister-in-law, Kathleen Cohn of Denver, Iowa; sister-in-law, Pat Kraft of Great Falls, Mont.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dean and Veronica Adams of Stacyville, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews and many loving friends and students.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and two brothers.
A Celebration of Life for Carol is being planned at a later date. Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City is handling arrangements.
