Carney, Leo
Funeral services for Leo Carney, 83, of Tipton, who died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 7, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Tipton. Visitation will be Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. Burial will take place in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Father David Hitch will be officiating.
Leo James Carney, son of Leo James and Edna Iona (Smith) Carney, was born Sept. 9, 1927, in St. Joseph, Mo. Leo served in the United States Navy. He was a graduate of Central High School in St. Joseph. On Nov. 7, 1948, Leo was united in marriage to Patsy Ruth McGinnis in St. Joseph.
Leo was a retired hog buyer for Oscar Meyer for 27 years. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Tipton, and past member of the Tipton Moose Lodge and Tipton Lions.
Leo is survived by his wife, Patsy Carney of Tipton; daughter, Carrie (Dan) Petersen of Tipton; sons, Mike (Liz) Carney of Jackson, Mo., Denny (Marilyn) Carney of Tipton and Patrick (Kaylene) Carney of Iowa City; grandchildren, Jenny (James) West, Nicki (Mia) Armstrong, Bryan (Jill) Carney, Shane Carney and Bob Carney; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Emily, Xander, Brogan and Kascen; sister, Carolyn (Jim) Pfeffer of Sun City, Ariz.; brother, Tom (Amparo) Carney of Johnston, Iowa; and sister-in-law, Rosey Carney of Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Father Dick and Jack Carney.
Memorials may be made to hospice or the Leo Carney Memorial Fund in memory of Leo.
