Carnell, James Eugene
James Eugene Carnell, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at his home. No services will be held at this time. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
Survivors include his wife, Ida Carnell of Cedar Rapids; children, Tina (Tony) Sykora of Cedar Rapids and Jay (Patricia) Carnell of Valrico, Fla.; grandchildren, Mike Sykora, Jayleen (Colin) Connor, Nicole (Josh) Mather, Lucas Carnell and Clint Carnell; siblings, Marie (James) Westerich of Kelso, Mo., Erlien (Dan) Howie of Satellite Beach, Fla., and Arline McClain of Red Bud, Ill.; and great-grandchildren, Toni Sykora, Iaian Sykora, Chase Conner, Kierstyn Mather, Jesslyn Sykora and Nick Sykora.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Clarissa Carnell; daughter, Sandra Carnell; brother, Jr. Carnell; and sister, Rozella Mae Martins.
James was born Jan. 11, 1929, in Chaffee, Mo., son of Jesse and Clarissa (Campbell) Carnell. On April 1, 1950, he was united in marriage to Ida McDonough. He was a 30-year maintenance supervisor for the City Water Department. James was a founder of Metro Youth Football. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame for Metro Youth Football.
