Carl L. Spilman Jr., 79, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2014, at the Keystone Nursing Care Center in Keystone following an extended illness.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan, 3, at Porky's on J St. SW in Cedar Rapids.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
Carl was born April 8, 1935, to Carl William and Helen (Jakoubek) Spilman Sr. in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from St. Wenseslaus High School in Cedar Rapids in 1953.
On July 14, 1956, he was united in marriage to Bernice Stastny and they were later divorced. He married Julie Pozimek on Feb. 10, 1979, in Cedar Rapids and they were also divorced.
Carl was employed at Montgomery Ward's in Iowa City for 20 years and as a sales manager for the Des Moines Register for 25 years. Carl loved playing Lotto and was a Hawkeye football fan. He was a member of the Solos Group in Cedar Rapids.
Carl is survived by his children, Jeff (Joan) Spilman of Cedar Rapids, Michael Spilman of Riverside, Terry (Dana) Spilman of Wyoming, Mary (Eric) Hohensee of Cedar Rapids, Julie Pettit of Winfield, Chris (Kendrae) Spilman of Cedar Rapids and Tiffany (Melvin) Barlow of Havelock, N.C.; 21 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
