Carl Phillip Garrett, 34, of Cedar Rapids passed away on May 31, 2022, at Mercy Hospice House after an eight month battle with colon cancer.
Carl is survived by his sister, Heather Garrett, Tama, and niece, Carmella; as well as many extended family members and friends who became like family.
Carl was born in Burlington, Iowa, on March 29, 1988. As a child, he was active in Boy Scouts, earning the Order of the Arrow and Eagle Scout Award. Carl graduated from Center Point- Urbana High School in 2006. He earned an associates degree in Electrical Engineering from Kirkwood Community College in 2009 and a Bachelor's degree in software engineering from Iowa State in 2014. Carl worked for United Fire Group as a senior application developer.
Carl enjoyed spending time gaming with his friends, cooking and trying any new gadget he could find. He spoiled his niece, making sure that she was supplied with noisy toys and treats. His sarcastic wit and genius problem solving abilities will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Essie Reida; sister, Jacqueline Garrett; and grandfathers, Claude Bickel and William Garrett Jr.
