Carl August Oehl was born July 18, 1927, in Amana, Iowa, the son of Fred and Helene Hergert Oehl. He graduated from the Amana High School with the class of 1946. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946, stationed in Chicago. Carl was united in marriage to Fern Wichmann on Sept. 12, 1953, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Homestead.
