Carl L. Zimmerman Jr., 90, passed away in his sleep at home, the morning of Saturday, March 6, 2021. Carl was born on Aug. 23, 1930, to Carl L. Zimmerman Sr. and Nola W. (Cray). When Carl was 3, his divorced dad married Neva (Oliver). Neva became Carl Jr.'s and his sister's loving stepmother, and then enlarged the family with five sisters and two brothers.
After Carl returned from the Navy, he married Patricia A. (Hoy) on Sept. 29, 1951. Their almost 70 years of marriage were spent in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where Carl retired from Alliant Energy as a Foreman, after
35-plus years of service. Carl was an avid golfer and an accomplished artisan craftsman, while also enjoying hosting and visiting many garage/yard sales. In December 2020, they moved to Northern Virginia to spend more time with their only child, M. Scott Zimmerman (Sharon), and their grandsons, M. David (Kristin) and Tyler Scott.
He was known as someone who always smiled, worked hard, was gracious, and was a storyteller.
Family services are being held at home.
