Carl K. Kintzel, 93, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, June 14, 2015, at Cottage Grove Place. Carl was born Aug. 20, 1921, in Olin, Iowa. He was the beloved husband to Velma L. Kintzel. They were united in marriage on Aug. 28, 1949. Carl proudly served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Wisconsin. He graduated from ISU in Ames with a degree in electrical engineering. Carl worked at Collins Radio which later became Rockwell International. He ended his career at CIPCO as a power engineer.
Carl was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. He was past president of IEEE. He enjoyed woodworking and making many pieces of furniture which are in family and friend's homes. Carl and Velma enjoyed traveling abroad, multiple cruises and dancing wherever they went. Carl always had a positive attitude, a ready smile and a hug for anyone he met. He was a very kind and gentle man.
Carl is survived by his two sons, Jeff (Christy) Kintzel of Cedar Rapids and Mark (Nancy) Kintzel of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Ryan (Jackie) Colberg of Bolingbrook, Ill., Joshua Kintzel of Cedar Rapids, Mollie (Marty) McDonald of Manchester and Scott Kintzel of North Liberty; and Scott's mother, Denise Kintzel of Cedar Rapids; great-grandchildren, Hayden and Jackson Colberg of Bolingbrook, Ill., and Camryn McDonald of Manchester; brother and sister-in-law, Everett and Doris Kintzel of Blairstown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Frieda; brothers, Irvin and Art; and sisters, Dorothy, Velma and Evelyn.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 18, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 19, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Camp Courageous.
The family would like to thank all the com-passionate, caring staff at Cottage Grove Place and Dr. Thomas Schroeder for the wonderful care that was provided to Carl. Carl was a wonderful, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many and will be missed by all.
