Carl E. Hoppe, 82, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, April 1, 2017, at Living Center West. There will be a visitation from 1 p.m. until service time at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Entombment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Cathy; daughter, Tracy Hoppe; two stepsons, Timothy Yerkes and Edwin (Mary) Yerkes, all of Cedar Rapids; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Robin; stepdaughter, Denise; and brother, Eugene.
Carl was born June 9, 1934, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Arling and Alberta Medford Hoppe. He married Catherine L. Lahue on April 13, 1983, in Cedar Rapids. Carl worked for the city of Cedar Rapids as a foreman at the city garage for several years.
Carl was a very talented singer and guitarist who played in several musical groups. In 2015, he was inducted into the Tristate Bluegrass Hall of Fame. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and the time spent with his many friends and beloved family. His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
