Carl Foster, 79, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2022, at ManorCare in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at First Presbyterian Church in Marion, Pastor Jim Langley will be officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion.
Carl was born on June 1, 1942, in Centralia, Ill., the son of Carl and Ora (Sherwood) Foster. He was a 1960 graduate of Marion High School and went on to attend Coe College, obtaining his business degree in 1985. On June 17, 1962, Carl was united in marriage to Lois Hanna, in Marion. Their unwavering love for one another taught their family that true love exists.
In 1968 he started Fosters Heating and Air Conditioning with his father. Later Carl worked as a Realtor with Executive Realty, Skogman and Iowa Realty before starting Foster Realty. He also worked as a general contractor. Carl was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Marion, serving as an Elder, Deacon, Trustee, a member of the building and grounds committee. He sang in the choir for 56 years and volunteered for the Helping Hands Store. He was a family man, enjoying annual fishing trips with his boys and Sunday night dinners with his children and grandchildren. Carl always was the life of the party. He was known to enjoy his daily crossword puzzles. Carl will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Carl is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Lois Foster of Marion; children, Chris (Erin) Foster, Jane (Carlos) Galarce, John (Holly) Foster and Kathy (Tim) Lovell, all of Marion; grandchildren, Taylor, Seth (Molly), Bethany and Gabrielle Foster, Blake (Meghan), Hannah and Haley Shaffer, Drew and Sydney Foster and Macey, Max and McKenzie Lovell; two great-grandchildren, Lucy and Jax Foster; two sisters, Jeanette Fletcher of Frisco, Texas, and Jennifer Vincent of Owasso, Okla.; brothers-in-law, Jim Gray of Midland, Mich., and Bill (Margaret) Hanna of Overland Park, Kan.; sister-in-law, Cheryl Hanna of Robins, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Karen Gray; parents-in-law, Harold and Marjorie Hanna; brothers-in-law, John Vincent and Ted Hanna; and sister-in-law, Sharon Hanna.
