Carder, Shirley JoAnne
Shirley JoAnne Carder, 78, of Clinton, passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at the Alverno Nursing Home. Funeral service will be Monday, July 12, at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Clinton, with Pastor Paul Holmer officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Lemke Funeral Homes, South Chapel, Clinton. Burial will be in Andover Cemetery.
Shirley was born March 19, 1932, in Andover, Iowa, to John and Freida (Behrens) Eickert. She graduated from Miles High School in 1950. Shirley married Keith Carder on Jan. 16, 1952, at North English Christian Church in North English. She had been employed at Collis, Carlon and Ralston Purina. After that she was a certified nursing assistant at Mercy North Hospital, retiring in 1994.
Shirley was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She enjoyed floral arranging, gardening, camping, polka dancing and music. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. Most importantly she loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Paula Jean; and three brothers. Survivors include her husband, Keith; eight children: Bruce (Joyce) Carder, Cedar Rapids; Loretta (Phil) Coppess, Clinton; Brenda (Everett) O'Shogay, Cedar Rapids; John (Julie) Carder, Mason City; Pam (Chris) Reedy, Andover; Jim (Sammy) Carder, Sabula; Kent Carder, Clinton; and Kelly (Andrea) Carder, Clinton; 32 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Donna (Larry) Helmle, Spragueville, and Bernette Andreson, Moline, Ill.
Pallbearers will be Bruce Carder, Jim Carder, John Carder, Kelly Carder, Kent Carder and Everett O'Shogay Sr.
