Caraway, Nancy Maye
Nancy Maye Caraway, 68, of Marion, surrounded by family, song, and prayer went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, Aug. 9, 2009 after her gracious battle with cancer. Services: 11 a.m., Thursday, at the First Baptist Church-Church of the Brethren, by Pastor Jim Goodrich. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Graveside Service: 3:30 p.m. at Monmouth Cemetery, Monmouth.
Nancy was devoted to her husband, James W. Caraway, of 47 years, and her legacy of love continues through the lives of her children, Neal Caraway (Springville), Julie (Roup) and Philip Linse, (Cedar Rapids), Jill and David Asprey (Solon), Wendy and Kent Bailey (Fort Madison), Caralyn and Steve Butler (Charlotte), Nathan and Lisa Caraway (Marion), and her 16 precious grandchildren. Nancy is also survived by her brother, James Allen (Davenport); sisters, Emily (John) Samuelson (Sioux Falls, S.D.), and Cynthia (Paul) Anderson (Washington), brother-in-law, Howard Propst (Reeds Spring, Mo.). Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, her sister JoyAnn Propst, and grandson Jonathan Caraway.
Nancy was born in rural Wyoming, May 7, 1941 to John and Helma (Schnack) Allen. She attended Spencerville Country School through the 8th grade, and graduated from Monmouth High School. She graduated from Iowa State Teacher's College and taught 6th grade in Tipton for 2 years. Nancy married her high school sweetheart Jim, on January 14, 1962 in Monmouth. Nancy was an integral part in the success of their construction company. Nancy was dependent upon the Lord throughout her life and her faith gave her strength and enabled her to reach out to others in need.
