Canfield, Lucille B.
Lucille B. Canfield, 95, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, Sept. 30, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 3, 2011, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. The Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer will officiate with burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation hours will be held Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Additional visitation time will be held one hour before the service Monday at the church.
Survivors include her children, Carol (Edward) Drahozal of Wheaton, Ill., Don (Phyllis) Canfield of Iowa City, Ted (Rachel) Elson-Canfield of Cedar Rapids, Tim (Michele) Canfield of Cedar Rapids, and Cathy Canfield-Jepson of Aurora, Ill.; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Lynnette Hodson of San Antonio, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; parents, George and Gertrude Boyenga; grandchildren, Sarah and Sam Canfield; and her brothers, Raymond and Donald Boyenga.
Lucille was born June 27, 1916, in Faulkner, Iowa, the daughter of George and Gertrude (Bleeker) Boyenga. Lucille married Kenneth M. Canfield on January 17, 1937, in Galena, Ill. Kenneth passed away Feb. 21, 1987. She graduated from Iowa State Teachers College with a degree in education, and taught in a one-room schoolhouse. She later retired as a food service manager with the Cedar Rapids schools. She was an active member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church for 61 years, and was past president of the Cedar Rapids Woman's Club and the Cedar Rapids School Food Service Association. Lucille's greatest joys in life were the church and her family. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend who will be greatly missed.
Memorials may be directed to St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Lucille's name.
